Since its founding in 1961, the University of Twente is deeply connected with the rich industrial heritage of the Twente region and the well-being of its population. Today, the university functions as a catalyst for many high-tech communities and sectors with strong partnerships in a wide range of industries and societal domains. By pioneering the fusing of technology, science and engineering with social sciences, the university creates an impact both globally and locally. Close to 13.000 students and almost 4.000 employees aim at making a difference in today’s society, while preparing for a future beyond differences, disciplines and borders. The challenge-based, cross-disciplinary way of working that characterises our university opens unexpected possibilities. For example, our vibrant campus includes state-of-the-art facilities such as our renowned NanoLab, our transdisciplinary DesignLab, and our innovative TechMed center, but also an enormous variety of sports and cultural facilities. The regional entrepreneurial ecosystem is supported by the NovelT incubator, with some 1.000 successful ventures to date. At the same time entrepreneurship education is offered to programmes ranging from the master’s in Business Administration to the bachelor’s in Advanced Technology.

The Saxion University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the Netherlands, with over 26.000 students. Saxion has a rich history – its roots can be traced back to 1875 with the textile history of Twente. A merger of two educational institutions, the Hogeschool Enschede and Hogeschool IJsselland, in 1998 paved the way for Saxion in its present form. The merger enabled Saxion to build further on its strong position in Dutch higher education and since then, Saxion University has come to be recognized as an important centre of expertise at the regional, national and international level. Saxion University of Applied Sciences has three campuses in the east of the Netherlands – on campus in each of the cities of Deventer, Enschede and Apeldoorn. Thanks to the important contribution of agriculture to the local economy, this region is renowned for its beautiful countryside and fairly relaxed pace of life. However, all three Saxion locations have good public (direct) transport facilities, meaning that the hustle and bustle of the major cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague is no more than 1½ hours away.
